About the Work
When FreMon Scientific set out to bring a new standard of thawing to blood, plasma, and tissue products, they needed a manufacturing partner who could tackle a technically complex consumable from process design through commercial scale. The ZipSleeve®—the consumable at the heart of the ZipThaw® system—incorporates an RFID sensor requiring precise integration across manufacturing, electronics, and software. Getting it right demanded more than production capability; it demanded deep collaboration.
Build by Boyd partnered with FreMon Scientific to design and develop manufacturing and assembly processes, complete process validation, establish test methods, and take full ownership of supply chain management for ongoing commercial production.

Launching the ZipSleeve® required building new manufacturing and assembly processes from the ground up. The consumable's RFID sensor—used to manage temperature during thawing and monitor device usage cycles—demanded close coordination between Build by Boyd, the sensor manufacturer, and FreMon Scientific's software development team to integrate reliably into a repeatable production process.
Alongside the assembly development, Build by Boyd designed new packaging to protect product shelf life and maximize production efficiency, and established the test method procedures needed to support ongoing quality and inspection requirements.

Manufacturing
With validated processes in place, Build by Boyd launched commercial manufacturing of the ZipSleeve®. An initial inventory build supported the product launch, and the operation transitioned into regular production campaigns as adoption grew.
At scale, the team completed optimization programs focused on material yields, productivity, and inspection and testing procedures—giving FreMon Scientific a reliable, efficient manufacturing operation and the freedom to focus on product adoption and long-term growth.

Supply Chain Management
The ZipSleeve® consumable is assembled from a diverse bill of materials spanning flexible materials, rigid plastics, metals, and electronic components—including several long lead-time items that demand proactive management. Build by Boyd engaged early in the program to identify and source the full bill of materials before assuming supply chain ownership alongside commercial production.
Today, Build by Boyd works closely with suppliers and the FreMon Scientific team to build demand forecasts and align the raw materials pipeline to ongoing production requirements—managing an international supply chain with the discipline the program demands.
