About the Work

When MilliporeSigma set out to create a new standard for off-the-shelf bioprocessing bags and tubing assemblies, they needed a manufacturing partner who could match the ambition. The result: Mobius® Essential—a product line that extended MilliporeSigma's leadership in bioprocessing and gave customers plug-and-play flexibility they hadn't had before.

Build by Boyd partnered with MilliporeSigma—building on a relationship now spanning more than 25 years—to develop custom manufacturing processes, design and procure specialized equipment, validate production at scale, and sustain long-term commercial manufacturing for the full Mobius® Essential portfolio.

Process Development & Validation

Launching the Mobius® Essential line meant building manufacturing capability from the ground up. The product required a new process, custom equipment, and two large-scale validation programs—each encompassing full IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols.

To support the scope of the program, Build by Boyd designed and installed a dedicated 3,000-square-foot Class 7 cleanroom housing two discrete production operations—purpose-built infrastructure that gave MilliporeSigma the manufacturing foundation needed to launch with confidence.

Manufacturing

With validated processes in place, the Mobius® Essential product family moved into full-scale production. An initial large inventory build ensured adequate supply for market launch, and as customer adoption grew, manufacturing scaled into regular production campaigns.

The scaled-up operation is focused on continuous optimization—driving efficiency gains and improving packaging throughput to support growing demand and long-term cost competitiveness.

Supply Chain Management

The Mobius® Essential products are manufactured from MilliporeSigma's proprietary PureFlex™ film along with more than 30 additional components and materials—a supply chain that demands careful coordination.

Working in close collaboration, both teams developed a demand plan to support commercial launch and ongoing production. Build by Boyd now owns and manages all supplier relationships and procurement procedures, ensuring uninterrupted supply and the flexibility to support future growth.
