Erbi Breez™
About the Work
When Erbi Biosystems developed the Breez™—a micro-scale, automated, closed-loop perfusion cell culture platform that replicated the performance of large-scale bioreactors at a fraction of the time and cost—they needed a manufacturing partner who could bring the precision and discipline the innovation demanded. The technology was groundbreaking. The manufacturing challenge was equally complex.
Build by Boyd partnered with Erbi Biosystems to develop a complete drawing package, design and procure custom assembly processes and fixturing, establish inspection and quality control procedures, and build a long-term manufacturing operation capable of scaling with market demand.

Process Development & Validation
Preparing the Erbi Breez™ for commercial manufacturing required building the technical foundation from the ground up. Build by Boyd developed a complete drawing package with full tolerances and dimensional call-outs, then optimized the assembly process—including the development of custom components and fixturing to improve both efficiency and ergonomics.
With the process fully documented and refined, Build by Boyd transferred the operation into commercial manufacturing—ready for scale.

Manufacturing
With the assembly process validated and transferred, Build by Boyd moved the Erbi Breez™ into a Class 7 cleanroom under GMP protocols. Manufacturing capacity scaled quickly to meet market demand and establish a stable long-term supply.
Once the operation reached scale, the team pursued cost reduction and process optimization—lowering the cost of goods sold, improving efficiency, and increasing overall capacity to position the product for continued growth and expansion into new applications.

Supply Chain Management
The Erbi Breez™ assembly draws from more than seventy components across twenty different suppliers—a supply chain that required early, deliberate coordination. Build by Boyd engaged at the outset of the program to qualify suppliers and add them to the approved supplier list before commercial production began.
As the program scaled, Build by Boyd worked closely with Erbi to develop and maintain accurate demand forecasts, pipeline raw materials, and ensure the stable, on-time delivery needed to support a growing market.
