Optimization
We make a mature process better. Once production is established, we continue refining it, reducing cost, improving yields, and strengthening reliability across the commercial life of your device.

Phase Overview
Optimization is where a proven process keeps improving. Production data is analyzed to find where cost, variation, and inefficiency remain, and targeted improvements are implemented under change control and revalidated where required. Materials are re-evaluated, cycle times reduced, and quality trends monitored for early signals. The output is a process that costs less to run, holds tighter quality, and stays reliable across the commercial life of the device rather than degrading as conditions change.
What Happens in This Phase
Each phase draws on a different combination of our disciplines and sub-disciplines. These are the ones that keep a mature process improving over the life of your device.
Process Data Analysis
Yield, cycle time, scrap, and capability data analyzed to identify where the process still has room to improve.
Continuous Improvement
Targeted improvements identified, prioritized by impact, and implemented under change control with revalidation where required.
Cost Reduction
Unit cost reduced through material substitution, cycle time improvement, and waste elimination without affecting conformance.
Yield Improvement
Sources of scrap and rework traced to root cause and eliminated, raising first-pass yield and lowering effective cost.
Quality Monitoring
Quality trends tracked over time so drift is detected and corrected before it reaches product.
Supply Chain Optimization
Sourcing, inventory, and lead times re-evaluated as volumes stabilize to improve cost and reduce supply risk.
Equipment Reliability
Preventive maintenance and equipment performance managed to protect uptime and keep the process capable.
Lifecycle Documentation
Documentation, risk files, and registrations maintained current as the process and product evolve.

What You Walk Away With
A process that improves rather than plateaus: analyzed production data with identified improvement opportunities, implemented changes with revalidation documentation, demonstrated unit cost reduction and yield improvement, monitored quality trends with drift detected early, an optimized supply chain, a preventive maintenance program protecting uptime, and current lifecycle documentation.
Why This Phase Matters
Margins in medical device manufacturing are won after launch, not at it. A process left alone does not stay level; tooling wears, suppliers change, operators turn over, and cost and quality drift in the wrong direction. Sustained attention is what keeps a mature process competitive, and it is often the difference between a device that remains commercially viable for a decade and one that does not.
