Boyd Biomedical Appoints Jason Fortier as President of Design by Boyd; Honors Retiring President Joseph Ting for Decades of Innovation

Lee, Massachusetts - Boyd Biomedical, the integrated commercialization partner for biomedical innovators, today announced the appointment of Jason Fortier as President of Design by Boyd, the company's contract design and development services division based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Fortier succeeds Joseph Ting, who is retiring after a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years in medical device product development, including his leadership of Design by Boyd since its founding.

Fortier joins Boyd Biomedical with more than 25 years of progressive R&D and product development leadership in the medical device and life sciences industry. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Research and Development at Augmenix, Inc., where he led the development of innovative hydrogel spacer technology for radiation oncology. His career includes senior leadership roles at Boston Scientific, where he served as Vice President of R&D, as well as Director of R&D positions at Medtronic and Covidien. Fortier holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jason is the right leader for this moment. He brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise, proven R&D leadership at world-class organizations, and a genuine passion for translating clinical ideas into devices that improve patient lives. As we continue to grow Design by Boyd and expand our integrated commercialization platform, Jason's experience scaling product development organizations and navigating complex regulatory pathways will be invaluable to our clients and our team.

In his new role, Fortier will lead Design by Boyd's multidisciplinary teams of industrial designers, biomedical engineers, mechanical engineers, and quality specialists. The division provides full-lifecycle medical device design and development services—from concept generation through verification, validation, and design transfer—across 15+ clinical specialties including cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurovascular, dermatology, and drug delivery applications.

Boyd also announced the retirement of Joseph Ting, who served as founding President of Design by Boyd and was instrumental in building the division into a recognized leader in contract medical device design. Over the course of his career, Ting earned more than 40 U.S. patents and authored 21 technical publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. His notable contributions include development work on CoolSculpting technology and multi-million dollar licensing agreements with major pharmaceutical companies. Ting also founded and grew Catapult Product Development and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he teaches Medical Device Design and Technology. He has also served as a Faculty member at MIT LinQ's Catalyst Program, an External Advisor to Boston Children's Hospital's Therapeutic & Medical Device Accelerator, and a reviewer for Mass General Brigham's Innovation Discovery Grants Program.

"Joe's contributions to Design by Boyd and to the broader medical device industry are extraordinary," said Stephen Boyd, Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Biomedical. "He helped us build our design division and establish our reputation for engineering excellence. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and wish him the very best in his well-earned retirement."

The leadership transition is effective immediately. Fortier will be based at Design by Boyd's hub in Waltham, Massachusetts.
